First established in 1945, the quaint community of Altadore was named one of Calgary’s best neighborhoods back in 2010 for its close proximity to Marda Loop, the city’s largest outdoor shopping property, as well as River Park, one of Calgary’s most popular parks. Altadore real estate was strategically built within the inner city of the City Centre zone of Calgary, bordered by two rivers and surrounded by giant parks, to render a village-like lifestyle for inhabitants.
The exact origins of this neighborhood’s name, “Altadore,” remain a widely debated topic. Some believe its name may have been derived from two words, wherein the first being “alta,” which could be used to describe the neighborhood’s location on top of a hill, and “dore”, which could be referring to “d’or” – a French term meaning “of gold.”
Altadore Neighborhood Homes
Decades after Altadore's founding date, this neighborhood saw the construction of humble homes. Nonetheless, the trend was only recently replaced as many young professionals and high-income families were drawn to the peaceful and laid-back living conditions presented by Altadore, which eventually sparked a noticeable demand for luxury residences over the last ten years.
Roughly 9,116 individuals reside in this community today. There’s a mix of various housing units in Altadore, wherein apartments and condominiums are the most common types comprising approximately two-fifths of the total number of houses. Single-family dwellings are the second most popular type at a little less than two-fifths, while the remaining is comprised of row houses and semi-detached homes.
Altadore Neighbourhood Amenities
As for neighbourhood amenities, Altadore homes for sale are just a short drive away from Zumiez Chinook Centre, a mall that carries a diverse selection of goods for purchase, but specializes in sportswear outfits and accessories. Additionally, all other amenities of importance (everything from diners to stadiums) can be reached through either a quick walk or a short drive.
The Altadore neighborhood encompasses several public and private schools which accommodate for Kindergartners and grade school pupils. Moreover, the Dr. Oakley School is equipped to serve students within the community suffering from various learning disabilities as well.
