Another American Retail Giant Has Moved into Calgary

Move over Canadian retailers, the American giants are prepared to move into our territory. On Thursday the first Marshalls store opened in Calgary in the Kingsland Village Shopping Centre on MacLeod Trail S.E. The ribbon-cutting took place at 9 AM and there were customers already lined up in anticipation of the grand opening.

This store is much like the Winners stores in that it offers brand name home fashions and apparel at discount prices. Marshalls has already opened stores in Québec, Ontario, Nova Scotia and British Columbia and has plans to open 33 more stores across Canada in the future.

Marshalls is confident that it will be able to make it here in Canada even though some other US retailers in the past have failed. Marshalls offers customers the opportunity to find brand name products at a fraction of the price compared to other stores. The company is able to offer deep discounts by purchasing in bulk. It gets its items from 60 different countries and products will vary from one store to the next.

This new store is huge with 31,000 ft.² of shopping space. The store is open from Monday to Saturday from 9 AM to 9 PM and on Sundays from 10 AM to 6 PM. This store offers various products from one week to the next. It's not like Sears where you can go into one store and then find the same thing in another Sears store. The stock is ever-changing and for some people, this is the type of shopping they like the best. These types of stores give you the chance to find a great deal and the opportunity to do some impulse buying since you can't be sure that you'll find the same item available the next day.
