Business Spotlight: Cluck N Cleaver

Director of Poultry, Francine Gomes, and Chief Chicken Officer, Nicole Gomes, cry fowl on anyone that thinks they find a tastier chicken in Calgary. The duo launched Cluck N Cleaver for one simple reason: they love chicken. It's their favourite food.
In addition to the outstanding menu items (southern fried chicken, classic rotisserie, and the Mother Clucker sandwich are just some of the delights), Cluck N Cleaver has found success by staying true to their core values for both product and service.
"And, more importantly," Francine adds, "staying true to the values of our employment culture."
She admits that opening and running Cluck N Cleaver is an ongoing learning experience, but the pair welcome the challenges by always cracking onto the next adventure of the day. One of the things that never fails to ruffle their feathers with pride is seeing the staff providing good service and great chicken to hungry patrons.
"Working with our employees and providing them with a good education so they can utilize their skills for future employment or use them to grow within our organization makes this job definitely more worthwhile," smiles Francine.
For other entrepreneur hopefuls she counsels, "We focus on the service and product. We think by focusing on consistently providing good service and quality food, then you will create a regular and growing clientele."
She's not wrong. A hearty helping of Yelp reviews praise the chicken and the restaurant saying, "so damn crispy and delicious," "my new favourite chicken place," and "insanely delicious."
The Gomes love feeding the residents and visitors of Calgary.
Francine says, "The city still has a small town feel and great sense of community; also the sun, maybe not so much this year, but most of the time!" are her favourite things about Calgary. Nicole spent 17 years in Calgary expanding her career, is a Top Chef Canada winner, and has appeared on Iron Chef Gauntlet. Between their love of chicken, love of the city, and feeding and entertaining their food fans, opening the restaurant was a natural fit.
"We try and involve ourselves in the community as much as possible," Francine continues. "We have held fundraisers for local organizations like Calgary Health Trust and for the Foothills Medical Centre Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Cluck N Cleaver is happy to report that their second location is open and serving up all the favourites, including their most popular menu items, the Lil' Clucker and Mother Clucker sandwiches. Those feature a quarter pound of fried chicken breast surrounded by handmade ingredients. The duo are also looking at possible locations in the southeast end of Calgary too, so soon you'll always conveniently be near a Cluck N Cleaver.
