Business Spotlight: Distilled Beauty Bar

Distilled Beauty Bar Business in Calgary

Distilled Beauty Bar & Social House brings together three very important things: pampering, delicious treats, and social gathering.

Distilled Beauty Bar

"A passion for travel is where the idea started: seeing amazing ideas from around the world, as well as my passion for coffee and wine!" says founder Lisa Maric. "It all came together when I saw this amazing space in Marda Loop, and the dream took on a life of its own. I wanted to create a social space in Marda Loop. I raised my family here and we have a great community. Our space was designed with our community in mind. It's a place for everyone. It's social house and a wee bit more."

At Distilled Beauty Bar, guests can get their hair or nails done, have their brows sculpted, their lashes extended, and their bodies waxed. A face bar provides an ample range of facials in addition to makeup application and microblading. The men's bar includes sports mani-pedis and waxing for the brows, neck, back and chest.

Beauty Services

Medical aesthetics are provided on site too, and include hair removal, skin tightening, photo facials, body contouring and acne treatments.

Delicious treats await you as you enjoy your service, or simply partake in the Coffee Bar. Sip tea, coffee or wine; nibble tapas, and choose from a menu that includes gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options.

Parties between 8-80 persons can book private events in the social room, and order catering from the menu.

Maric credits the success of her company to, "My family, our community and the amazing team at Distilled... we take care of each other." And looking back from when she opened her business to now, she says she wouldn't change a thing. "All the challenges we had made us better, they needed to happen."

"I love coming in to work and seeing all our customers, saying good morning to them and feeling like we are creating a great community space and long-lasting friendships," she smiles.

Like all Calgary entrepreneurs, Maric and her team feel the effects of the current economic and political climate. "We are doing the best we can, but we are not coming out of a recession, those are just talking points and not the reality for many Calgarians. Governments are about taxation first, last and always. There is a lack of understanding from our governments. They seem to view the citizens and small business owners of this province as 'credit cards.'"

However, she is just as quick to point out the positives of business ownership in Calgary, which she lists as, "the people and other small business owners who are creative and supportive."

Rosso Coffee

Distilled Beauty Bar cares about giving back to the community. "We are involved in several local charities and we use our space to support small businesses who are just starting out. The key is collaborations! We have added wine events four times a year and we are having two fashion shows coming up for local charities: the Love for Lewiston Foundation, and the Calgary Firefighters Burn Treatment Society."

If you have yet to experience Distilled Beauty Bar, you have much to look forward to. "Ladies love our pedicures as well as our signature cocktail, the mangria, featuring mandarin vodka and mangos. We also have a thoughtfully-curated list of wines from around the world. We currently are featuring an amazing small batch of wine from Croatia," Maric concludes.
