Calgary's Downtown Garden Provides a Neighbourhood Feel
Calgary is a city in Canada that is dominated by oil and gas. This can make it hard to find a place to relax and feel like you are just part of a neighbourhood. Everywhere you go in this city, it seems like things always feel like a place of business and executive decisions.
Five years ago, downtown Calgary decided it was time for a change. It was time to make the neighbourhood feel more like a neighbourhood again. So, how did they do it?
A Downtown Garden Was Created
Right smack dab in the middle of what seems like an endless concrete jungle, a garden emerged. It is a beautiful oasis to remind the busy business people of Calgary about nature and how important nature is.
The truth is: community gardens are becoming more and more popular with every day that passes. This garden, however, is a little on the unique side. So far, the only gardeners for this beautiful garden have been volunteers and clients from the facility that created it. Things were different this year, when a handful of students volunteered to lend a hand and brighten things up. Vegetables, fruits, and herbs were harvested in order to create over 3,000 meals!
There are so many different reasons this community garden is a good thing for Calgary. It is a way to bring the people of Calgary together and remind them that there is more to life than just running around and doing business deals all the time. It is a chance to remember how big of a role Mother Nature plays in your life.
If you've yet to make your way over to visit this beautiful community garden, it is definitely something you should try to fit into your schedule.
