The Military Museums of Calgary are definitely a must-see for new and old residents of the area. You’ll get the chance to discover victories, tragedies and sacrifices that have occurred with the Canadian Forces. Experience life during the Second World War wheelhouse, witness a bomber squadron’s mission over enemy territory and walk through a trench from the First World War.
The museum is dedicated to representing Canada’s air force, arm, and navy through educating the public about Canada’s military. The Military Museums of Calgary are especially great for the youth of the area. Here is a look at what you can experience at the museum.
Visiting the Military Museums of Calgary
You can visit weekdays from 9am to 5pm and weekends from 9:30am to 4pm. It costs $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and only $4 for students and youth. Families can get a special rate while there is no charge for veterans, military personnel and children under 7.
You can book a program for a public group or school and you can even rent their facilities for hosting an event from private to public functions and board meetings to formal dinners.
Visit the gift shop where you’ll find military memorabilia, books and scale models. The museum is located at 4520 Crowchild Trail SW in Calgary across the street from Currie Barracks and Mount Royal College in the Garrison Woods neighbourhood.
The Military Museums was formerly known as the Museum of the Regiments and contained four museums of the history of the regiments based in Alberta. After expanding in 2009, it is now the home of the largest tri-service museum in Western Canada.
You’ll get to see a piece of history as far back as the Northwest Rebellion in 1885 including the Boer War, the First and Second World Wars and the current conflict in Afghanistan. See a replica of a Second World War wheelhouse, see simulated trenches of the First World War and so much more.
