It's Time to Dispose of your Christmas Tree Again
Christmas is over and it's time to figure out what to do with that tree. Sure, you could leave it up all year long, but it will die eventually.
The City of Calgary will be picking up Christmas trees for the fifth year, again. The will be picking them up to turn them into mulch throughout the city. Those that receive residential garbage pickup don't have to take their tree anywhere to dispose of it.
A Few Things to Know About Disposing your Christmas Tree
There are a few things you must know if you want to have your tree picked up by the City of Calgary, which include:
- Remove all the lights, ornaments, tinsel and other decorations
- Don't wrap your tree in plastic or a bag
- Put your tree out with your garbage collection
- Have your tree out by 7am on Friday, January 9th and leave it out because a different crew will be picking up the tree
- It could take as long as three weeks for the crew to pick up your Christmas tree
This isn't the only opportunity to get rid of your tree and let the city recycle it by turning it into mulch. You can also drop your tree off at any of the following locations before January 31st:
- Marda Loop Communities Association - 3130 16 Street SW
- Spyhill Landfill - 69 Street and 112 Avenue NW
- Shepard Landfill - 114 Avenue and 68 Street SE
- Prairie Winds Park - 223 Castleridge Boulevard NE
- Parks Compound - 10312 Sacramento Drive SW
- East Calgary Landfill - 17 Avenue and 68 Street SE
- BottomLands Park - St. George's Drive and 7 Avenue NE
Make sure you check with the drop off location for hours and instructions.
