Join the Canada Day Celebrations in Airdrie This Year!

If you live in Airdrie you may want to consider staying in town to celebrate Canada Day this year. While the fireworks display didn't last the entire 15 minutes as they should have last year, this year's fireworks will be different. The display of fireworks and the parade are expected to be better in 2014 thanks to a grant that was received.

The Celebrate Canada Program by Canadian Heritage provided a $5,000 grant to the committee that works on the Airdrie fireworks and parades. Most of this grant will go towards topping up the fireworks on Canada Day.

The parade will also be bigger than ever with many new registrations being added to the event. Come out to see the parade on July 1 from 10 AM until 12 PM on Main Street and you'll be able to see the show wagons from the Calgary Stampede.

This year's theme for the parade will be the Alberta Summer Games but the focus will still remain on celebrating Canada's birthday. If you're planning on going to the parade, please note that Main Street will be closed off from First Avenue to Allen Street starting at 9 AM to 12:30 PM.

This year, there will also be a family dance event from 8 PM - 10:15 PM at East Lake Athletic Park. This is a free dance that gives all family members something to do in the evening while waiting for the fireworks to start at dark. As well, there will be a ceremony held before the fireworks to rename the park. The new name, Ed Eggerer Athletic Park, recognizes the local philanthropist and businessman that passed away last year.

The celebrations in Airdrie are going to be spectacular for Canada Day. If you don't feel like traveling into the big city, you can stay in town this year and enjoy bigger and better fireworks and a larger parade.
