Restaurant Spotlight: Tamarind
If you’ve never been to Tamarind in Calgary, you have to pay a visit. It’s an East Indian Restaurant serving dinner seven days a week. It was inspired by the street food of India so expect regional sauces, spices and curries in familiar dishes like chicken samosas with cilantro-infused yogurt and vinegar-infused Lamb vindaloo.
Since the owners believe in providing an enjoyable dining experience to all guests, the staff is very friendly and the food is authentic. Check out the modern feel, the tasteful décor and the fine dining experience you’ll enjoy while transporting to a night in India. Here is a look at what to expect for dinner at Tamarind.
The restaurant was inspired by Bubly, Johnny and Jay Walia, restaurant owners that each played their part in bringing the vision alive. Bubly once cooked with her mother growing up while the rest of the family got in on the action of starting a small business preparing specialty Samosas for caterings.
When their space got too tight, the family decided to rent a takeout bay called Bubly’s in the northeast and eventually it was so successful that a 60-seat dining room was opened which became Tamarind. It’s been open since 2010 at 610 – 1110 Panatella Blvd NW.
What to Expect
The restaurant is open weekdays from 4pm-10pm, Saturdays from 12:30pm-10pm and Sundays from noon until 9pm. There are three great chefs preparing your meals that are authentically East Indian food. Enjoy the street-food-inspired dishes, family-style dining and food that comes continuously and placed in the centre of the table for all to enjoy.
Everything is cooked fresh in the modern stainless steel kitchen using regional curries, sauces and spices. You’ll love the lighting, the stone and wood décor and the cozy, full-service bar for a cocktail. Enjoy dinner items including a variety of poultry, fish, meat, vegetables, noodles and rice. Appetizers and bread are available, as well as an after-dinner dessert. Enjoy wine by the bottle, cocktails, beer or non-alcoholic beverages.
