The Historic Pedestrian Mall

Enjoying the Stephen Avenue Walk provides Calgary residents with one of the most interesting pedestrian malls in the country. This is considered a National Historic District and is one of the few found throughout Canada. Many of the building date back to the 19th century and are well preserved. If you enjoy old architecture, the City Hall building, Olympic Plaza and Hudson's Bay Company Building are "must-see" choices.

Not only is this mall a great place of the history buff, but it's also a great choice for shoppers. Whether you're looking for shoes, baked goods, coffee, old stores or many other things, you can find it on 8th Avenue. This part of the historic district features many malls, the Glenbow Museum and Convention Centre and many great shops.

Live performers come to this part of Calgary during the summer months and provide plenty of great entertainments. Enjoy performances while dining at one of the many restaurants, cafes or enjoying a beverage at one of the pubs or bars. Many locals believe the bars and pubs found along the Stephen Avenue Walk are some of the best in the city.

Many festivals are held at Olympic Plaza, including the Calgary Stampede, chuckwagon breakfasts and more. Walking tours are also provided for students with fun activities and questions throughout the tour. This area of Downtown Calgary sees over 5,000 people per hours, during peak times and provides plenty for the entire family to enjoy. Buskers, music, artists and many others provide plenty of culture to the area, along with nine large shopping centers and some of the best restaurants in the city.

The Stephen Avenue Walk is located on 8th Avenue SW (Stephen Avenue) and runs all the way from 1st Street SE to 4th Street SW. It's closed to vehicles and opens from 6am to 6pm each day for pedestrians.
