When anticipating summer fun, all we have to do is wait for the beautiful month of June to arrive. Although June 21st may technically be the first official day of the season, all month long Calgarians take every opportunity to celebrate the warm weather. Each part of the city will be filled with blooming flowers, lush green parks, cool rivers, and all the sunny heat people can stand. It is also in June when the city explodes with activity! Businesses host their summer events, workshops offer new skills, music fills every corner of the city, and celebrities visit to offer entertainment and excitement!

VegFest Calgary – June 15th
Does the taste of peppers, asparagus, or squash excite your palate? Is a vegan lifestyle the one you choose? Then you do not want to miss VegFest Calgary this June! For one day only, come down to Millennium Park to enjoy incredible food, industry speakers discussing ethics, fitness, the environment and more, local music, and shopping! This foodie event is free with a voluntary donation at the door.
Father’s Day Brunch at Fort Calgary – June 16th
Mother’s day saw some amazing events in the city, and dad’s get just as much hype! On June 16th, head down to Fort Calgary for a delicious brunch to celebrate Father’s Day. The brunch will include the “award-winning buffet featuring made-to-order omelette station, eggs benedict, sausages, bacon, hash browns, pancakes… and many more chef’s selections.” Purchase your tickets online and treat dad to a tasty morning he won’t forget!
Calgary Food Bike Tour – June 23rd
“Now you can get a taste of Calgary without the guilt as the calories are burned off!” On June 23rd join BeatStation in the Calgary Food Bike Tour that will guide you to different areas of the city to indulge in amazing food and drink. Leisurely make your way to and from each location and discover some of Calgary’s best restaurants, chocolatiers, breweries, and historical sights... on your bike! The 4th Street Lilac Festival – June 2nd
Starting at 10am on Sunday June 2nd, Calgarians head to 4th street (starting at Elbow Drive) for a unique festival to celebrate the season! The 4th Street Lilac Festival is a very popular free event that invites everyone to come down and shop, listen to music, and enjoy the many restaurants with kiosks and storefronts. The event will showcase local vendors, musical performances of all kinds, entertainment for the whole family, and much more!
Inglewood Night Market – June 7th
Bring the whole family down to Inglewood from 5-11pm to enjoy the sights and sounds of Calgary’s eclectic community! At the Inglewood Night Market, wander the streets to discover new shops, try new foods, view local art and talents, and check out the local entertainment. Specialized Festivals and Events in Calgary
TEDxYYC 2019 – June 15th
Taking place at the Jack Singer Concert Hall, the TEDxYYC 2019 will be putting on another show and celebrating 10 years running. The theme of the year, ‘You Are Here’, includes a focus on determining where we are and the context of what that actually means. The event will feature various inspirational and thought proviking talks and will begin at 10am, ending at 5pm. Tickets are available online.
Pride and Prejudice Summer Ball – June 1st
If dressing up in ball gowns, swaying all night long, and Jane Austen are interests of yours the Pride and Prejudice Summer Ball is where your heart will take you. On June 1st, hosted by Regency Encounters at the Fairmont Palliser, this historical event will “transport you to the world of Darcy and Elizabeth, of Napoleon Bonaparte and Jane Austen, walking straight into Netherfield.” The evening will feature music, food, and dancing (no experience or partner necessary!), complete with a ballroom setting!

Riddim West – June 8th
For those who have enjoyed the sounds of ReggaeFest in Calgary, this year you are invited once again to come and experience Riddim West. This family-friendly event will take place at MacEwan Hall within the University of Calgary, and will feature performers from around the world as well as the local area who will share reggae sounds. JazzYYC Summer Festival – June 12-16th
Join some of the most vibrant jazz in the city along the ‘Music Mile’ for this year’s JazzYYC Summer Festival. Throughout the week, explore a wide variety of jazz music with “concerts, a club series, and the signature JazzWalk on the Sunday of the festival.” Events are free or ticketed dependent upon location.
Russell Brand Live – June 15th
In support of the Fresh Start Recovery Centre, comedian, author, and actor Russell Brand will be performing in Calgary. This fundraising event will seek to assist those suffering from addiction and offer them the help they need to recover. The event will take place at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium and tickets are available on Ticketmaster.ca.
Sled Island Music and Arts Festival – June 19-23rd
If you enjoy music of all sorts, then the Sled Island Music and Arts Festival is something you must do this summer! This 5-day event features over 250 different bands, 30 venues, comedy, film, and art for you to enjoy in locations across the city. Strength in Abilities Run 2019 – June 23rd
Celebrating their 50th anniversary, Vecova is happy to announce their Strength in Abilities Run 2019. Open to all ages and abilities, the run will be focused on celebrating each individual and their own abilities, embracing them for who they are. Proceeds of the race will go towards supporting Vecova employment, living support, and wellness services for those with disabilities. Bring your family and have fun running to support the community!
