It is time to face the facts, summer is fleeting and fall is right around the corner… September 23rd to be exact! And with the passing of summer also comes the time to get back to work and send the kids to school once again. It is this month that is filled with organization, preparing, and planning for the inevitable return. Although our schedules will become filled with task-focused things to do, there is still plenty of fun and excitement to take part in that will keep the post-summer-blues away and celebrate the coming of fall!
September is the perfect time to pack your rain jacket, grab a warm beverage, and explore the city! The leaves on the trees in the city parks turn a beautiful shade of red and orange, and the weather is still warm enough to go out and take part in events! This month there are plenty of events to participate in, such as charity runs, hit concerts, Pride celebrations, and even a Monster Jam! Calgary Beer Run – September 8th
Hosted by the Canada Beer Run, the Calgary Beer Run is an event for beer lovers and runners alike. The event begins at 11am where you can join in a pre-drink and pre-party before the run begins. Then once the pre-party is over, you and other participants will run a total of 10.6kms. Along the way you will have access to tasty beer stops where various local breweries will provide you with a drink to quench your thirst! This event is only open to those 19 years and older. Registration is required to reserve your spot.

Monster Jam – September 8th
Taking place at the Grandstand in downtown Calgary is an event like no other – the Monster Jam! Described as “adrenaline-charged family entertainment,” you will have the opportunity to see some of the most recognizable trucks in the world. This monster truck competitions include racing and “gravity-defying feats” that will be fun for the whole family! Tickets are available on Ticketmaster.ca.
Locked Library – September 20th
Returning for another year of puzzles and adventure, the Calgary Public Library is hosting another Locked Library at the Central Library downtown! The event begins after hours and from 7:30pm until 9:30 you must work with your selected team to solve puzzles, explore the library, find clues, and escape in time! Tickets are available on the Calgary Public Library website.

Pride Parade – September 1st
This year’s annual Calgary Pride Parade will be celebrating their 29th iteration of this colourful event. Happening in downtown Calgary, the parade is open to all, including non-profit organizations, businesses, unions, politicians, and everyone else who wants to celebrate Pride! The parade will begin at 11am on 6th Avenue and will continue until 1 pm – first come first serve for spots along the parade route!
YYC Fright Fest – September 13th
Who says that Halloween only can take place in October? The YYC Fright Fest is enjoying Halloween as the ‘season’ it should be. Come down to this spooky event and visit local vendors, intriguing entertainment, photo ops, and more! The event is free to the public and is kid friendly – costumes are encouraged! Check out the Fright Fest this fall and be ready to get scared!
Glow Night 2019 – September 27th
On September 27th, the whole family is invited to MacLeod Trail for Glow Night 2019. A spectacular free event for all ages that will include magnificent sights of glowing hot air balloons. Join the crowd in the count down until the burners are lit, walk inside and see a balloon yourself, and watch as they fill the night sky!

George Canyon with Charlie Mayor & Doc Walker – September 7th
Although summer is over, and with it the Calgary Stampede, you still have plenty of opportunities to hear your favourite country artists this fall! Well-known hit artist George Canyon will be coming to Calgary on September 7th to perform at the Deerfoot Inn and Casino. Big Rock Barn Burner Concert – September 14th
Taking place at the Big Rock Brewery you have the chance to eat, drink, and enjoy the hit songs of Tokyo Police Club, Mt. Joy, and Scenic Route to Alaska! What amazing event is this? Only the Big Rock Barn Burner Concert! This unique event will feature the musical performances by these hit artists, $6 Big Rock beers and ciders, and delicious food trucks. Eric Church – September 20th
Country music singer and songwriter, Eric Church is coming to Calgary this September! If you are a fan, be sure to purchase your tickets to come and see him perform hits such as How ‘Bout You, Desperate Man, Springsteen and much more! The concert will take place at the Scotiabank Saddledome at 8pm on September 20th.
Charitable Events in Calgary
ARF’s 2019 Walk n’ Wag – September 22nd
Celebrating their 10th annual Walk n’ Wag, ARF Alberta is excited to host this pet-friendly dog walk. The walk is a short 2km, but aside from the walk, the event will have various activities for kids, families, and the dogs! Come down to River Park to join in the festivities and support the Animal Rescue Foundation. A registration fee of $10 is required at sign-in of the event.
AARCS Jail n Bail 2019 – September 14th
Are you an animal lover? If so, then you will not want to miss out on an amusing fundraiser to support animals in need hosted by AARCS. On September 14th, special VIP’s will be locked in the dog kennels with some furry friends for the Jail n Bail fundraiser! These VIPs will only be released once the pre-set amount has been raised! Come down to enjoy food trucks, pets, a kid’s area, and help raise money for the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society.
