Townhouse and Condominium Apartment Market Statistics for June 2014

In June, condos and townhomes across the city were selling fast and furiously. According to the Calgary Real Estate Board, the resale activity was brisk with 100 more sales made in both sectors when compared to June 2013.

There were 427 townhomes sold during the month of June, which was a 34% rise compared to the 318 units that were sold during the same time period last year. There were a total of 474 condominium apartments sold in June, which was a rise of 32% when compared to the 358 that were sold last year.

Most of the resale activity in these 2 sectors occurred in the southwest quadrant of Calgary last month. In Zone C, which covers most of the southwest area, there were 445 sales that took place. Most sales in Zone C occurred in the downtown neighbourhood of Connaught where 42 condominiums were sold.

In Zone A, which covers most of Calgary's northwest section, there were 257 transactions taking place in June. Panorama Hills reported the most activity with 22 transactions.

In the southeast section of Calgary, which is covered mainly by Zone D, there were 122 sales taking place in June. Zone B saw the least amount of activity with 77 sales occurring.

The benchmark price for condos went up by 13.5% when compared to the benchmark price last year to $299,700. The price for a townhome last month was up 10% over last June's figures to $326,000. A total of 505 new listings for townhouses were added last month while 712 new condo listings were also giving buyers more selection to choose from.
