Upcoming Event: Marda Gras Street Festival
Every year, Calgary's Marda Gras festival is held on the second Sunday of August, which happens to be August 9th. The festival is fun for all ages, and it's an opportunity to help the community too. Hopefully, this guide will give you a little insight on what to expect during this event and how you can make the most of it.
Main stage
The main stage is where most of the entertainment will be. Throughout the day, anything from bands to Oktoberfest will happen on the main stage.
Pet pageant
Even the family pet can play a part in the Marda Gras festival. Dress your pet in a costume for a chance to win prizes. Any money made from the event will be donated to the Calgary Humane Society.
Street performers
Throughout 33rd Avenue, there will be different street performers providing magic, juggling, and games. The High Strung Aerial Dance will perform for the thirteenth consecutive year with their high energy, acrobatic dance style.
Kids Quarter
There will be popular games and familiar sites, like a bouncy castle. Any proceeds from this will be donated to the Marda Loop Communities Association.
Where to Eat
There are several places to sit down along 33rd Avenue if you need a break from the festival to refuel. There's Belmont Diner, Dragon Gate Restaurant, and Avenue Deli, just to name a few. There will also be numerous food trucks throughout the festival.
The thirty first annual Marda Gras festival will take place in the Marda Loop district in southwest Calgary. Since this shopping area is not vehicle friendly, it is best to bike to the festival, or ride the free shuttle busses from the Military Museums into the festival. Until then, keep track of any changes or upcoming events on their Facebook page.
