Downtown West End Real Estate Market

Downtown West End only has a handful of single-family detached homes. It is estimated that around 93% of the neighbourhood is made up of high-rise apartments and condominiums and about 54% of the housing is for rent.

Downtown West End Community Amenities

The neighbourhood was founded in 1884, a year after the Canadian Pacific Railway arrived in 1883. In 2002, the Downtown West Community Association created programs and started projects designed to enhance the environment in the area and promote social relationships among its active participants. It has successfully involved other nearby neighbourhoods in its endeavors.

The Downtown West End area shows off a lot of amenities as an inner-city neighbourhood, such as Shaw Millenium Park, the Unison at Kerby Centre, the iconic Mewata Armoury, the Contemporary Calgary art gallery, and the Bow River. These areas are great spots for bike riding, running, walking, and even rollerblading. Mewata Bridge leads to the Westmount and Hillhurst neighbourhoods, and Beltline is a few blocks to the south.

There are several schools near the West End neighbourhood: the MC College – Marvel, Sol Schools Calgary, Calgary Catholic School District, Connaught Community School, STEM Montessori Academy of Canada Calgary, Visual College of Art and Design (VCAD) - Calgary, and the CDI College - Calgary City Centre.
