The Evergreen community is comprised of two sections. The older and more established of the two is Evergreen Estates. The newer half is simply known as Evergreen. Separate homeowners’ associations oversee the pair, and their jurisdiction is distinguished by the pattern of street names in the neighbourhood. The Shawnee-Evergreen Community Association is exclusively in charge of homes located in streets with “Evergreen” in their names. The rest are under the Calgary Evergreen Community Association.
The development of the Evergreen community began in the 1980s. The entire neighborhood consists of 5,400 single-family houses and around 1,300 condominium units. The prices of Evergreen single-family homes range from the low $300s up to around $2 million. Prices of condo units start in the low $200s. Notably, only 1.3 percent of the residential properties are for renting, contributing to the close-knit relationship among the residents. Close to 11,500 residents live in Evergreen, per a 2006 estimate.
Evergreen Neighbourhood Amenities
Many recreational facilities are within easy reach of the Evergreen neighbourhood. Among these are those offered by the local YMCA, the South Fish Recreation Centre, the Southland Leisure Centre, and the South Fish Creek Recreation Centre. The Shawnee Slopes Golf Course is also located within the Evergreen community. Access to Calgary downtown is likewise convenient. Commute for the residents of the neighborhood can be easily facilitated via the south LRT stations at Fish Creek-Lacombe and Shawnessy.
