North West Calgary Zone Homes For Sale

Real estate wise, North West zone's mix contains both high end and affordable housing options, making it a great choice for investors, professional and first time buyers alike. Medical services in the North West include the Tom Baker cancer center, the Foothills Hospital and the city’s acclaimed Children’s Hospital.

North West has it all. Quiet living along the Bow River or sweeping vistas from high above the valley floor plus major shopping centres, restaurants, theatres, schools and recreation. The North West is everything west of Centre Street and everything north of the Bow River, or on the far western edge, the Trans-Canada Highway. This part of Calgary has grown rapidly since the early 1990s with no barriers to land acquisition. Road and transit infrastructure has developed at an equally rapid pace, with an LRT Station as far as Tuscany and easy traffic flow on the North West leg of Stoney Trail. New interchanges on the Trans-Canada at Winsport.

Canada Olympic Park are the finishing touches to local road improvement in the North West. Crowchild Trail is a major six-lane freeway which cuts through the North West on its way to Cochrane. There is excellent east/west traffic flow along 16 Ave NW, John Laurie Blvd NW and Country Hills Blvd NW or Beddington Trail NW.

North West real estate includes heritage homes in Crescent Heights, Hillhurst Sunnyside, Hounsfield Heights, Parkdale and Bowness. Smaller inner-city communities such as West Hillhurst, Mount Pleasant and Capitol Hill are undergoing redevelopment, where older cottage-style homes built between 1910 and 1946 are making way for stunning new infill homes or world-class condominium developments. Calgary’s building boom of the 1970s gave birth to homes on the western edge of the city’s iconic Nose Hill Park. North West Calgary Zone Amenities

Amenities in North West zone include post-secondary institutions such as the U of C and SAIT, both accessible by LRT. Foothills Hospital is affiliated with the U of C medical program. Next door are the Tom Baker Cancer Centre and the Libin Cardiovascular Institute. The Alberta Children’s Hospital is immediately west of the U of C and minutes from anywhere in the North West.

Sports enthusiasts will be happy to know that McMahon Stadium, home of the CFL Calgary Stampeders, is also located next to and operated by the U of C. Legacies of the 1988 Winter Olympic Games include the Olympic Oval on the U of C Campus, and Winsport Canada Olympic Park on the Trans-Canada Highway. The ski hill, ski jump, luge and bobsled tracks and four Olympic-sized hockey rinks are all accessible to the public.

Nose Hill Park, a Calgary landmark and prominent geographic feature of the North West, is a large urban park and protected environmental area. It’s home to rabbits, deer, coyotes, bobcats, skunks, partridges and many bird species. The walking trails and bike paths which cut through this park are open daily for public enjoyment of this historic park which offers 360 degree views of the city. On the valley floor is Bowness Park with its lagoon and picnic areas, which has been a popular leisure destination for Calgarians for more than 100 years.

Shopping centres in the North West include North Hill Mall, Calgary’s first indoor shopping mall. Market Mall is located near the U of C with many more shopping and entertainment districts at Crowfoot Crossing and along Country Hills Blvd NW.
