Whitehorn Community
Whitehorn is a residential community in North East Calgary. Developed starting in 1973, this neighborhood is home to 11,842 residents, as per a 2006 census. Major roadways border the periphery of Whitehorn, facilitating convenient mobility for its residents. Notably, the Calgary International Airport is only a short distance north of the neighborhood.
Most residential buildings in Whitehorn are detached and semi-detached single-family homes. Close to one-fourth (23.1 percent) of total housing is for rentals. Available single-family houses in the community are typically on the market with asking prices in the $200s and $300s.
Whitehorn homes for sale are bordered by McKnight Blvd to the north, 32 Avenue to the south, 52 Street to the east, and 36 Street to the west. A section of the C-Train LRT system also runs on 36 Street, with a station serving Whitehorn. An industrial park, Westwinds, is adjacent to the northern periphery of the community, a boon for those home buyers seeking local employment. Also, the Peter Lougheed Centre of the Calgary General Hospital is located southwest of the neighborhood. Whitehorn is also near the city's bike path system and the Village Square Leisure Centre. The LRT along 36 Street provides access to various shopping, entertainment and recreational venues, supplementing those at Deerfoot Trail which is a short distance west of Whitehorn.
Whitehorn Neighbourhood Amenities
The Whitehorn community association serves as the nucleus for a variety of multicultural neighbourhood amenities. The association also hosts such neighborhood activities as youth dances, karate classes, and craft fairs. The local skating rinks and community hockey are also popular pastimes for the residents.
Whitehorn Schools
In addition to the Whitehorn separate school St. Wilfrid Elementary, there are public schools in the neighbourhood, including Chief Justice Milvain Elementary, Colonel J. Fred Scott Elementary, and Annie Gale Junior High.
